Lots of Fun for Everyone!
New Hope Church Library:
We have a well-rounded collection of Christian books for adults and children, as well. For adults, there are many versions of the Bible in our reference section, plus resource, devotional materials and study guides for Bible Study or Small Group discussions. For adults we have books about religion, biographies and a small fiction section. There is also a stand with the most current Presbyterian Today and Guidepost magazines to pick up and read.
For children we have reading materials for all ages: sturdy board books for toddlers, picture books, story books for parents to read to children, easy readers, chapter books for new readers and a young adult section. We also have some DVD movies to check out.
Our library uses the “old-fashioned way” of checking out books or materials. Due dates are usually 3 weeks out. You simply take the card out of the back of the book and write your name on the card, while you use the date stamp to stamp the named card and the due date placard in the back of the book. For adults, several times a year we pick a book to read and then meet for a Saturday Morning Book Chat. We have various people that facilitate the lively discussions and a light breakfast is served.
In the spring, the Library sponsors Lemonade Stand Day to promote entrepreneurship. Maddy and Connor Reiff, with the help of their parents and the Library Board, provide lemonade and treats and the monies earned go “for new kid’s books for the Library”. In the summer we hold a 6-week free Summer Bible Story Hour every Thursday morning beginning the week after our own Bible School. Kids from 2-8 years old enjoy Bible stories and other books, read by “The Story Lady” a.k.a. Librarian Barb Cleveland. We have weekly treats and prizes are passed out at the end of the session. Our October fall event, “Hats Off to Halloween” is a fun children’s carnival. Our pre-school and church kids are asked to come in a non-scary costume. Games are played and prizes are won, including a costume parade and contest and plenty of treats for all. At this event, admission is a warm hat or money collected goes to purchase more hats.
The Library does not have set hours, rather it is open when the church is open.
